Here is the photo for Entry #1 in the Flats Challenge Giveaway!

Here's my munchkin in her morning flat!

Her hair is disheveled and she scratched her lip, but here she is anyway. A picture of your baby in a flat is entry #1! One size diapers are kind of sopply/bulky on newborns. They are just bulky for how tiny a newborn is. I personally used newborn rubber pants since their dipes aren't messy (as in volume of poo or anything) and the rubber pants are cheap & then you can use Chinese prefolds or flatfolds inside. I only bought 2 pair of rubber pants too since they are only tiny for such a short time & you can literally wash those out in the sink & dry them & put them right back on. So there is no need for "wait time' in the laundry. Even a bigger newborn of 9lbs or 10 lbs will look like they have a HUGE bottom in a one size diaper. Once you hit 11lbs or so it starts to look a bit more proportional. You can buy a pack of flatfolds for like $10 new & a couple pair of rubber pants for many $5-10. So if you buy two packs of the flatfolds & the pants you are talking maybe $30 & that is cheaper than buying sposies still. You do wash about every day that way, but frankly I was doing a load of wash every day with or without that. LOL

I have never heard of Bum Genius reusables but many cmepanios sell these kinds of AIO nappies. Do a search on-line and you can see the differences between AIOs, AI2s, fitted and pocket nappies. Companies offer different or similar nappy systems, advantages and materials. Note some AIOs also need waterproof covers which adds to the overall expense. I have used Pea Pods small pocket nappies (they come in S,M,L) and prefer Oz Nappies and Soft Bots one-size design pocket nappies with absorbent bamboo and micofiber inserts. They are created to be used from newborn until the child is toilet trained (~3-15kg). It is a good idea to give a few different brands of modern cloth nappies (MCNs) a go before deciding to buy larger packs. When you are considering buying multiple sizes of a particular brand, this does raise the overall cost, but some caregivers like this option. The number of nappies you have detemines how often yo uhave to wash. You could have 20 of one kind and order other types as well. The 20 pack could mean you only wash every second day.

I don't think the double elaistc is a make it or break it deal, what I prefer is the suede cloth inner and the PUL over the TPU. Just specify to her when ordering that you want the suede cloth inners, and you should receive the older styles. I'm sure they come in snaps and velcro, but when I ordered them months ago I only ordered velcro. My more recent order had been since they updated their line with TPU and microfleece inners.
