About Us
Thanks for visiting ChicDiapers.com. Our goal is to provide a single reliable source of information and products related to the world of cloth diapering.
To get off on the right foot, it’s important for you to know that our reason for being is not “about us,” but rather it’s “about you.” We’re not in this for the accolades, or the recognition, or the money. We’re in this to provide reliable, fashionable and environmentally-friendly products at reasonable prices to committed moms and families. We encourage you to help keep us honest in this endeavor by calling us out at any time it seems like we’ve lost focus.
That said, let us tell you a little more about ChicDiapers.com, the foundation of our thinking, our background, founders, etc.
Core Values
It's about the people, not the profit. We will address the needs and concerns of our customers in all that we do. We trust that as we do this we’ll be able to cover our costs to keep things moving along. We recognize that at the end of the day it’s about how you treat people that counts. Accordingly we will follow the advice shared by H. Jackson Brown, author of Life's Little Instruction Book, “Live so that when your children think of fairness and integrity, they think of you.”
Be honest in all our dealings. Our commitment is to operate transparently in all of our activities, communicating honestly with customers and employees alike, regardless of the situation. No mixed messages here – what we say is what we mean. Brigham Young, an early western pioneer and revered religious leader once said “Honest hearts produce honest actions.” Our hearts are honest, and our commitment is to be straight-up in all our actions.
Communicate openly and clearly. George Bernard Shaw said it best when he said, “The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.” Properly armed with this understanding, it is our commitment to offer clear and open communication in all of our business endeavors.
Create a lasting, positive impact. Above wealth or fame, the greatest legacy one can enjoy is creating a lasting positive impact for future generations. Our lofty goal is to provide information, resources, and practices that will improve the lives and environment for those that follow us.
Give back to the community. Each of us has attained our individual stations, not by our own actions, but as a result of gifts and blessings received at the hands of friends and strangers alike. In order to pay back those who have helped us, as well as to “pay it forward”, we have set about to establish a formal pattern of giving back to the community in order to help others be successful too.
Rely on inspiration. Saving the best for last, it seems that virtually every human has, at one time or another, recognized the influence of some other power in their lives. In the establishment of our business endeavors, we have recognized such influence on many occasions. We commit to encourage and rely upon such inspiration in order to best benefit those with whom we deal.
Company Background
We are BIG believers in the principle that things don’t “just happen”, but rather that “things happen for a reason.” Some call it fate, others call it providence, and still others call it “divine correlation”. However you want to phrase it, the current setting of Chelique and ChicDiapers is the culmination of some unusual events that would make you shake your head in disbelief.
In the fall of 2008 “The Economy” happened. In one fell swoop some pretty capable and experienced folks found themselves wondering what was next. Anticipating that things may never return to "normal", several would-be entrepreneurs set out to find our own way. Over the course of three or four months 15-20 seasoned business people pondered and worked and counseled together to help each other identify possible new courses for our lives. In the process we became friends.
Since then most of us have gone our own ways. But during much of 2009 and early 2010 these folks dedicated many hours of joint development, focused thinking and shared inspiration to our cause. The results you see here are a direct outgrowth of the efforts and input of these people. Although it is not possible to give proper thanks or recognition to most of these folks, our view of the Universe decrees that we give a collective shout-out to the many folks who have helped steer us in the right direction.
Somehow out of the dust “Chelique” was born – a family of eCommerce websites targeted to bring top quality products to savvy customers at reasonable prices.
Our first foray is ChicDiapers.
Meet the Team
Andrew Willis - Co-Founder, Head of Products, Sales & Marketing and "Where do we go now?"
Andrew is the key visionary of our company. He’s the one who tries to understand what people want (even before they know what they want), then goes out and tracks it down. His passion is to discover the products that customers will want, then provide them at the best possible prices – all while creating an unforgettable experience. He loves to visit with customers and listen to their feedback and ideas about the products they love (and hate).
Andrew has been responsible for product selection, promotions, pricing and merchandising for several well-known national retailers including Barnes and Noble, Dayton Hudson, Hastings Entertainment, and Deseret Book. In these roles, he has traveled the world over – establishing friendships and connections in many faraway places. Fortunately, we all get to benefit from his deep background and experience. Feel free to contact Andrew whenever you have feedback about the product we carry or the product you’d like to see.
Jay Larkin - Co-Founder, Head of Presentation, Customer Interface and "Whatever Andrew hasn't already done."
Jay can tally up a couple of decades managing groups that listen to, and take care of customers in a whole bunch of industries. Ever follow up on a product from Gateway Computers? He was at the helm. Ever have an issue with a Citibank Credit Card? He was there too. Did you submit a question to the 2010 Census? Ditto. HP Printers? Avery labels? MSN? Adobe Software? Online auctions? . . . . you get the picture.
Through the years, a single concept has guided Jay’s efforts: Customers ARE the business. Resolve their concerns, and you resolve the concerns of the business. Together with Andrew, Jay is responsible to ensure that your experience with us is nothing short of exceptional. If you experience is less than exceptional, please let Jay know.
Wendy Moss - Webmaster, Shopping Cart/Social Media Ninja, and Cloth Diapering Mom
There are times when weird (cool) things happen when you need them most. At a pivotal time in our development we needed an expert with Magento eCommerce to help push us the last 10 yards. After looking all over the world, literally, for a consultant - we found Wendy in our own back yard. After running into Andrew at a local cloth diapering event, Wendy – with her knowledge of Magento and other skills – raised the idea of her offering assistance with the technical and social networking side of things. Andrew (brilliant man that he is) took her up on the offer. That decision has made all the difference.
Despite a late entry to the game, Wendy immediately brought tons-o’-value to the enterprise through both her technical abilities, as well as her “cloth diapering mom” experience. We owe much of the functionality , some waaay cool features, as well as a good portion of our site’s “approach” to Wendy’s insights.
Wendy's background includes both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree, and lots of website building experience stretching back to when she was fourteen. Additionally, she has spent time in the classroom working as a public school teacher, at the police department (working, not “visiting”), and at Chuck E. Cheese – what better background can you get when working with kiddos? Wendy made the move to cloth diapers when her six month old baby girl was experiencing issues with sensitive skin and severe rashes. She’s never looked back. She is more than willing to help answer any cloth diapering questions you might have.
Supporters, Friends and Mentors
Sheryl Willis, Monique Larkin, and Jeff Moss
They say the strongest buildings have the best foundations – the support given never seen nor appreciated by the public. Anyone who has ever started a company knows that the real heroes are the families behind the scenes. In our cases, it’s our spouses who have quietly encouraged us when others rolled their eyes. Whether it was a willingness to support that one last financial investment when there was no money to invest, or a suggestion that the family room would make a great warehouse, or (in Jeff’s case) sharing his 10 years’ development experience by offering some inspirational suggestion for a thorny issue, without these stalwart supporters, ChicDiapers would be nothing more than a wistful memory
Andrew Larkin - AndrewPaulPhoto.com
Throughout various areas of our site you will find some extraordinary photography of different kiddo's. Many of these photos were provided by Andrew Larkin of AndrewPaulPhoto.com. To see some amazing photography of all sorts, you should really check out his site (look especially for some of his wedding and outdoor stuff). Despite the fact that Andrew is Jay's son, the work he provided at no charge is highly valuable and would have cost us a chunk had we gone to any other professional photographer - and we don't think we would have gotten near the quality! Thanks Drew! (I love you)
